Midland College is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Associate Director of Student Basic Needs & Accommodations to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive support to our students, ensuring they have the resources and accommodations necessary to thrive academically and personally. This position involves case management for students in need of assistance with basic needs, oversight of an essentials and basic needs (Chap) pantry, acting as a liaison for foster care students, and facilitating accommodation services for students requiring ADA/504 support.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, higher education administration, or a related field
- Experience working in student affairs or a similar role within a higher education setting.
- Strong understanding of issues related to basic needs insecurity, foster care, and disability services
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse student populations
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, community partners, and external stakeholders
- Highly organized with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Commitment to promoting inclusive excellence within the college community
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in counseling, social work, higher education administration, or a related field
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
- Supervisory experience
Essential Functions
Case Management:
- Provide personalized support and guidance to students experiencing challenges with basic needs such as food insecurity, housing instability, and financial constraints
- Conduct thorough assessments of students’ situations and develop individualized plans to address their needs effectively
- Active member of the institution’s CARE team
- Collaborate with college departments and external organizations to connect students with appropriate resources and services
Operational Oversight of Chap Pantry:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the essentials and basic needs pantry, ensuring it is well-stocked and organized to meet the needs of students
- Coordinate volunteers and student workers to assist with pantry operations, including inventory management, distribution, and maintenance
- Implement strategies to promote the pantry’s services and increase awareness among the student body
Liaison for Foster Care Students:
- Serve as the primary point of contact and advocate for students with a background in foster care, offering support, guidance, and resources to facilitate their academic success and well-being
- Collaborate with local agencies and organizations to enhance support services for foster care students, including mentorship programs and transitional housing options
- Organize events and workshops tailored to the unique needs and challenges faced by students from foster care backgrounds
- Oversight of any grant or support initiatives for the Foster Care population, including any budget management and reporting requirements for said initiatives
- Recruiting and supervising student support staff for Foster Care outreach and programming
Accommodation Services:
- Assist students in navigating the accommodation request process, including documentation requirements and accommodation implementation
- Work closely with faculty, staff, and relevant departments to ensure that students with disabilities receive appropriate accommodations in accordance with ADA/504 regulations
- Provide ongoing support and advocacy for students with disabilities, addressing any concerns or challenges they may encounter throughout their academic journey
Essential Functions:
- Participate in continuing education, professional and personal development opportunities
- Must be able to work occasional evenings to meet student needs
- Serve on college committees as appropriate
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- This position needs to occasionally move or drive to other locations on and off campus
- This position may require occasional travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
- Use of manual dexterity
- The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 20 pounds
- Duties indoors and some outdoors
- Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, and attend Midland College or community events
