CO Patient Service Coordinator

Job Description

We are seeking a CO Patient Service Coordinator who will offer friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to every patient to ensure that the patient has a positive experience while at Johns Hopkins. Maintains accurate information on each patient to facilitate the patient encounter. Use automated systems to expedite patient scheduling, pre-registration, check-in, and check-out. Work with others in a team environment. Occasional coverage of other offsite JHH/JHU GYN/OB clinic locations remotely or by traveling to the location. Must have transportation available. The PSC at this location provides services to multiple medical specialties that utilize this office space for patient care.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Greet patients in a professional, friendly, courteous manner, and offers confidential assistance to ensure that the patient has a positive experience at the clinic.
  • Answer telephones, provides routine information to callers, and refer patients to appropriate resources per clinic policies and procedures.
  • Schedule appointments by phone or in person utilizing the electronic medical record (EMR); obtains, confirms and enters patient information including demographics, insurance information, and billing data; expedites pre-registration, check-in and check-out of all patients.
  • Coordinate and schedule follow-up care for patients including appointments, and other procedures as directed by providers.
  • Work with the healthcare team to ensure smooth and efficient patient flow and clinical operations.
  • Maintains and updates confidential medical records by preparing, scanning and indexing medical records and other patient information (e.g., prescription refills, test results, consent forms etc.) into the EMR.
  • Collects time of service payments, issues receipts, and prepares cash settlement records.
  • Performs various duties pertaining to opening and closing of the clinic, such as cash drawer reconciliation, shutting down computers, etc.
  • Monitors the in-basket in the electronic medical record system. Handles basic in-basket requests and forwards others as necessary to the appropriate resource.
  • Documents appropriately in the EMR system (e.g., telephone encounters)
  • Reschedules patients when provider clinic schedule changes.
  • Maintains familiarity with various types of medical insurance to explain these plans.
  • Operates personal computer to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • One year work experience in customer service required.
  • Two years related work experience preferred.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years college or equivalent work experience.
  • Two years related work experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical insurance coverage preferred.
  • Medical terminology and basic computer skills preferred.
