Job Summary

The UM-Flint Department of Public Safety (DPS) is a department within the University's broader Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) and is committed to protecting and serving our campus community.

The Emergency Management (EM) and Infrastructure Security Coordinator facilitates partnerships and coordination of emergency planning and homeland security efforts with internal U-M units and local, state, and federal partners. In collaboration with the DPSS emergency management team and DPS personnel, the role supports a comprehensive all-hazards approach to preparing for, protecting against, and responding to various emergencies and risks that could impact our people, operations, and environment.

This position's primary reporting location is the Flint campus, and it will be a direct report to the UM-Flint Chief of Police. The position will work closely with the DPSS Associate Director of Emergency Management to integrate the emergency management program throughout the university and will serve as a subject matter expert in developing and enhancing physical security plans and capabilities for infrastructure and facilities on campus.

The EM and Infrastructure Security Coordinator will be expected to regularly engage with faculty, staff, community members, and external partners to further enhance protection, prevention, and preparedness efforts.

This position requires the candidate to successfully pass a thorough background investigation and drug screening. The candidate should be able to obtain a federal security clearance.

Responsibilities*

This position is responsible for promoting, coordinating, and implementing both all-hazards emergency preparedness efforts and key physical security programs and initiatives at the UM-Flint campus. The duties of the position will include, but not be limited to:

This position will require flexibility to work non-traditional business hours and will have other duties assigned as needed.
 

Required Qualifications*

Modes of Work

The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan. 

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Additional Information

All members of the Department of Public Safety (DPS) are Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. As such, you are required to report Clery reportable offenses that come to your attention. DPS employees are required to complete Clery Compliance Training within the first 14 days of employment and annually thereafter.

 

Background Screening

The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background checks. Background checks will be performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

 

Selection Process

The selection process will measure the following competencies and will be in accordance with the DPSS Hiring and Selection Order:

The process may include but is not limited to, an oral interview, leadership and/or stakeholder interviews, an administrative overview, background reviews, and any applicable medical components, such as drug and psychological screening.

 

Pay Range Information

The pay range for this position is $66,900.00 to $83,600.00.
