About the Role:

Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: NBIX) is offering the opportunity to gain clinical drug development experience in the world of biotechnology. The Clinical Pharmacology Group supports Neurocrine's early and late state development programs through data analysis, interpretation and reporting of pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) data. We are seeking a skilled and qualified pharmacy (PharmD) or graduate (PhD) student who is interested in summer internship opportunities to learn, grow and gain understanding of role of clinical pharmacologists in drug development. The Intern will work in the Clinical Pharmacology Group on his/her specific project and under the supervision of an experienced Clinical Pharmacologist. The project scope includes but is not limited to a longitudinal exploratory PKPD analysis, non-compartmental analysis for clinical studies, and design a clinical pharmacology or phase 1 study.

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
  • Conduct literature review to gather background information on the project-related or program-supporting research topic

  • Prepare PK/PD datasets, perform exploratory data analysis to describe clinical observations of drug concentrations and biomarker/efficacy/safety responses

  • Conduct non-compartmental analysis for reporting of PK data from clinical studies

  • Interact with other members of the clinical pharmacology, pharmacometrics, and bioanalytical teams and clinical development teams within the company through attending study team meetings or presenting results of data analyses

  • Complete a special project and present the recommendations to key stakeholders upon completion

Requirements:
  • Pursuing a PharmD degree or relevant graduate degree (PhD) in Pharmacometrics, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical PK/PD, Pharmaceutical Sciences, (bio) Statistics with at least one year completion in the graduate program and an interest in biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry

  • Knowledge in pharmacokinetics or statistics. Knowledge in clinical pharmacology software (e.g., Phoenix Winonlin) or programming language (e.g., R) are bonus but not necessary

  • Prior experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry would be an asset but is not required

  • Familiarity with biopharmaceutical technologies, physical and life sciences, product development, and regulatory approval processes is desirable

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to think creatively and be a team player

  • Offer flexibility with a willingness to work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Bring to the Company a skill set complementary to its technology and development therapeutics

  • Interest in attending various program events, including social gatherings, career development workshops, and more

  • Ability to commit to a 10-12-week full-time summer program
