JOB GOAL:

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Under limited supervision, the Student and Academic Support Coordinator will coordinate all college planning and career development services, including outreach and advising for concurrent enrollment offerings for students attending Jones County and other surrounding schools, including course and programs at the Jones County Regional Center. This person will provide individual and group assistance to students related to college planning and career development activities, be familiar with college admission and advising practices, and work closely with area high schools to successfully transition students into postsecondary programs or work. This position will require a positive attitude, high level of detail, effective relationship building and collaboration skills with a diverse group of individuals and departments within the College. Strong communication skills are desired. Some evening hours will be required.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Assist students in determining educational and career goals.
  • Plan and implement student recruitment and retention activities.
  • Assist with student supervision and reporting student progress for early warning and retention.
  • Maintain contacts with area high schools; the Workplace Learning Connection, Kirkwood Adult High School & Alternative High School program; and other appropriate business, agency, and community organizations.
  • Conduct group and individual advising sessions with any or all Kirkwood students.
  • Serve as liaison between faculty, students and school districts.
  • Coordinate recruitment, student orientation, onboarding, and registration process.
  • Assist with the creation of college planning and career development material
  • Visit classrooms and provide college planning and career development information
  • Correspond with area school Counselors and Principals
  • Assist in formulating and implementing marketing and communication plans.
  • Assist with student advocacy.
  • Implement academic and employability assessment instruments.
  • Access Kirkwood programs and support services for college planning and career development activities.
  • Serve as the A.D.A. Accommodations Advocate for eligible students.
  • Coordinate and deliver career development and workplace readiness courses and workshops.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Marketing, Communications or related field required.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and own transportation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Minimum of three years in an educational setting preferred.
