Job Description

Responsibilities*

This person will provide assistance carrying out experiments and developing  a clinical sample collection for the laboratory. They will assist with bacterial genetics experiments including conjugation and curing of plasmids, and comparative fitness experiments. This will include culturing a large number of strains in broth and other liquid growth conditions, performing quantitative culture, DNA extraction, PCR, and preparation of samples for sequencing. They will also screen clinical isolates for bacteria of interest based on colony morphology, confirm identification by real-time PCR, cryopreserve bacteria, and create and maintain a strain database.

Required Qualifications*

The successful applicant must have at least 1 year's experience in bacteriology and be able to perform sterile technique, culturing of biosafety level 2 bacteria, competitive growth experiments, and bacterial growth curves.

Excellent organizational skills.
