Core Facility Technologist II
Job Description
We are seeking a Core Facility Technologist II to work under the Central Processing Core. The Core Facility Technologist II is responsible for performing core facility tasks and completing routine clinical research specimen procurement, processing, shipping, while following Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) procedures in a non-research, central services core facility that supports clinical research.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare, qualify, monitor, and maintain standard core facility equipment, including documentation of parameters on log-sheets.
- Monitor inventory of core facility supplies, updating electronic inventory databases posted on shared drives and accessed by study teams, that document inventory levels of clinical research reagents/materials and shipping supplies.
- Perform related core facility maintenance such as cleaning and/or purchasing equipment and supplies and working with vendors.
- Understands the role of senior lab members and management, accepts constructive guidance.
- Train users in more complex equipment operation, on more sophisticated procedures, and core facility workflows.
- Perform competency on select processing and shipping procedures.
- Assemble, qualify, calibrate, clean, make minor repairs, document daily parameters on log-sheets, for core facility equipment. May include some routine troubleshooting working with more sophisticated instrumentation.
- Track itemized service activities to create invoices to make sure clinical research study teams are charged appropriately and adhere to institutional stipulations.
- Process orders, or invoices, or undertake other clerical duties under direction of administrative personnel.
- Environmental health and safety office for core facility, coordinate training, monitor and ensure compliance with set guidelines.
- May assist with performing monthly audits for quality assurance monitoring.
- May include responsibility or coverage in more than one central service area.
- Other duties as assigned by the CPC Supervisor and/or Operations Director.
- Required to work on a rotating shift as assigned by management.

- Ensures compliance with environmental health and safety guidelines.
- Is aware of the role of the position and its potential impact on the working unit.
Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities / Competencies
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Extremely attentive to detail; able to discriminate between multiple similar tubes/vials.
- Legible handwriting, including the ability to write neatly on small labels.
- Able to read small print on tube/vial labels.
- Reliability in attendance, punctual; foresight in planning time off in cooperation with other team members.
- Ability to bend, stoop, lift boxes weighing up to 25 lbs. and walk moderate
- distances while pushing a cart or carrying a specimen transport .
- Comfortable using a step stool and reaching above shoulder height.
- Has the ability to accommodate a fast-paced laboratory schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
- One year laboratory and/or clinical research experience performing relevant techniques.
- High School Diploma or graduation equivalent or AA degree with some science coursework and laboratory experience performing relevant techniques may substitute for education to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate from technical institute or internship experience.

Starting Salary Range: $17.20 - $30.30 HRLY ($23.75/hour targeted; Commensurate with experience)
