About the Department

As one of the eleven academic Departments and two Centers in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Moise A. Khayrallah Center for Lebanese Diaspora Studies is dedicated to research about Lebanese immigrants in the US and throughout the world, and to the dissemination of this knowledge to the scholarly community and general public. The Khayrallah Center is a center of expertise which hosts a collaborative community of scholars and practitioners, and a convener and connector for the sharing of campus and community resources to facilitate research informed policies and practices. Grant and award opportunities are offered to academic scholars and information is provided to assist academic scholars with research publications, presentations, and conferences. The Khayrallah Center also undertakes public outreach projects across the US through multiple means that include museum exhibits, film documentaries, and other scholarly and general information publications.

Essential Job Duties

Position is responsible for the management and operation of the Khayrallah Center Archive including planning and organizing the acquisition, processing, storage, and exhibition of collections and related materials, along with the selection of exhibition themes and designs.

Other duties include:
  • Develops, constructs, and maintains the Archive’s registration, cataloging, and recordkeeping systems. 
  • Identifies potential problems with collection handling and development and implements solutions. 
  • Trains and directly supervises curatorial and research staff as well as the work of three-four undergraduate/graduate student workers and interns on research and archival development projects per semester. 
  • Assists in the writing of grant proposals essential to the acquisition of research and project funding for the Archive. 
  • Serves as liaison and maintains relationships with other departments for collaborative research efforts on archival projects and information technology. 
  • Advises students and staff on research activities and provides information from the Archive’s holdings to other curators, researchers, and the public to facilitate the development of joint collections and acquisitions. 
  • Independently plans and conducts special research projects in area of interest or expertise; and conducts or organizes tours, workshops, and instructional sessions to acquaint individuals with the institution’s facilities and materials. 
  • Reviews progress of archival projects and evaluates results. 
  • Participates in strategic planning for both the Center and the Archive and facilitates development.

Other Responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree, and at least one year of related experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Database management experience. 
  • Must be able to work well independently and with direct supervision. 
  • Advanced knowledge of and training in physical and digital archiving procedures, processes, and industry standards. 
  • Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Public History and Library Management with at least 1 year experience working with ArchiveSpace, and other archival technologies.
