If you are pursuing a degree in Computer Science and want to work on some of the most ambitious technical problems in maritime uncrewed systems, we’d love to have you join our team!

We are scouting for a standout Computer Science intern with hands-on educational experience in languages like Python, C++, Java, and MATLAB. You will join our dynamic team of engineers in a collaborative development environment. We are passionate about creating excellent technical solutions for our nation’s Navy. Our team is also committed to developing exceptional engineering talent and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.

As a member of our team you will…

  • Build next-generation solutions to help tackle complex issues related to maritime autonomy for our Navy.
  • Engage in end-to-end software engineering processes.
  • Be part of high-caliber teams of engineers focused on designing, creating, and fine-tuning simulation platforms that assess and validate the Navy’s latest algorithms and systems for autonomy.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary teams, and actively participate in software design evaluations, code reviews, and test strategy planning.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Are working towards a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Have classroom experience in or knowledge of software design patterns in either C++, Python, Java, or MATLAB.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 Scale. Note: When prompted to upload attachments, please include a copy of your college transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).
  • Have pursued technical projects and extracurricular activities outside of the classroom.
  • Are able to obtain a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

 

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you…

  • Possess classroom or related experience in working closely with autonomous systems and machine learning algorithms.
  • Have classroom or professional experience in developing with middleware or ization software tools, such as Data Distribution Service, ZeroMQ, Docker, or Kubernetes.
  • Hold classroom experience in data science and statistical analysis.
  • Have experience in a modern software development environment, such as Agile or Kanban, that includes automated testing, continuous integration and deployment, and DevSecOps protocols.
  • Currently maintain an active Secret security clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

$21.90 Hourly

Maximum Rate

$46.45 Hourly
