Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The position exists to provide assistance in the Diesel laboratory for the Transportation Technology department. The Diesel Lab Assistant is responsible for laboratory supervision and in assisting the instructors in clerical to provide requisitions, work orders, software updates and industry certifications. The diesel lab assistant’s role is to maintain a clean, safe and organized lab environment.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities- Coordinate the preparation of Diesel shop exercises and activities. This includes ensuring all equipment, trucks, and expendable supplies are in place and sufficient for the requirements of each session.
- Supervise students under the direction of the instructor in maintaining a safe and clean working environment to allow faculty to focus on instructing students. Inform instructors of safety violations and issues.
- Assist the students as directed by the instructor with individual problems pertaining to instructional and learning activities.
- Prepares and submits requisitions for industry recognized certifications SP2, EPA 609, TIA, and ASE and others as required or assigned by department chair.
- Assist the instructor with the completion of necessary forms or reports required by Laredo College and other agencies contracted by LC.
- Helps with the supervision of students while on field trips or other off campus activites.
- Reports student grievance or displinary problems to instructor.
- Works at different time schedules and location to accommodate program training requirements.
- Attend all staff meetings and in-service workshops as directed.
- Coordinate with faculty to email vendors, submit IT work orders, and Physical Plant requests for repairs.
- Maintain software and programs to avoid delays in instruction.
- Maintain all records for student certifications and ASE task list as required by accrediting agency.
- Maintain all tools and equipment and coordinate with faculty the required maintenance of specialized equipment.

Required:- Candidate must have a High School Diploma or High School Diploma Equivalency.
- Must have at least two years of recent field experience or post-secondary vocational/technical training in the Automotive or Diesel Technology field.
Preferred:
Industry credentials within the Automotive or Diesel Technology field.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must know the safe and proper operation of tools and equipment.
- Must be proficient in clerical skills to send emails, work orders, and software update to maintain lab in working order.
- Using hand tools, minor troubleshooting and repair of equipment, cleaning, and organizing of storage racks, shelves and cabinets

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
