We are seeking a Payroll Coordinator to help us process bi-weekly payroll that includes maintaining, verifying, reviewing, and researching employee data to ensure accurate payment.

We are looking for someone with a focus on partnering, who is meticulous with a continuous process improvement approach, and has excellent organizational, prioritization and communication skills. Also important to success is maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

 

As a Payroll Coordinator...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to maintain payroll data and process bi-weekly payroll for 9,000+ staff across multiple states, ensuring accurate payment and compliance with internal governance procedures and external regulations. Your attention to detail and organizational skills will come into play while you monitor and maintain internal and regulatory controls to ensure data quality through data analysis and reports. Flexibility will also be instrumental in ensuring the team’s ability to adapt as requirements change and/or evolve.
  • Using your strong interpersonal and communication skills, you will respond to and support customer inquiries and sensitive and confidential matters that fosters a trustworthy and collaborative environment. Your curiosity for critical thinking and effective problem-solving while safeguarding sensitive information will facilitate timely and applicable solutions that are advantageous in a deadline-driven environment.
  • We expect you to manage payroll records retention efforts. Your solution-oriented approach will be instrumental in offering ideas to improve information management activities impacting internal and external regulatory controls.
  • You will perform other payroll duties as assigned, including supporting garnishment and child support processing, tax filings and reporting, and Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) audit requests.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a High School diploma or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with payroll processing or inter-related processes.
  • Working knowledge of HRIS/Payroll systems and multi-state payroll experience
  • Basic knowledge of automated time and attendance system(s)
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Outstanding attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to collaboratively perform in a dynamic and fast paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate at all organizational levels
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and independently resolve challenges
  • Have a strong desire to learn and can easily adapt to changing environments

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have experience with in-house Time and Attendance, HRIS, and/or Payroll applications such as Workday.
  • Have processed payroll for a large organization (5,000+ staff)
  • Have exposure to in-house management of short-term disability
  • Maintain a professional payroll certification, such as Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
  • Have experience in a Department of Defense (DoD) or Government contracting environment

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. Minimum Rate

$22.80 Hourly

Maximum Rate

$41.45 Hourly
