Catholic Charities of Western Washington is recruiting applicants to serve as President of Catholic Community Services of Western Washington (CCS), the Archdiocesan Housing Authority (AHA) and the Catholic Charities Foundation (CCF), and to direct and lead approximately 5,000 staff and volunteers and oversee the nearly $500 million annual operating budgets of the Catholic Charities family of agencies. Under the leadership and sponsorship of the Archbishop of Seattle, the Organization primarily serves the Archdiocese of Seattle, which covers Western Washington, and extends certain services to eastern Washington and into Oregon. Compensation for the President is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. We offer a variety of employee benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. MISSION STATEMENT OF THE ORGANIZATION:
Rooted in Catholic Social Teaching and the Lord’s call to love and serve our neighbors, Catholic Community Services of Western Washington (CCS), the Archdiocesan Housing Authority (AHA) and the Catholic Charities Foundation (CCF) are the social services outreaches of the Catholic Church in Western Washington. Under the leadership of the Archbishop of Seattle and the Boards of Trustees, CCS, AHA and CCF answer the Gospel call to loving and compassionate service with particular concern for the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death and the dignity of the human person. Our employees and volunteers come from many faith traditions to serve and support poor and vulnerable people through the provision of quality, integrated services and housing. Our focus is on those individuals, children, families, and communities struggling with poverty and the effects of intolerance and racism. We actively join with others to work for justice.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
On behalf of the Archbishop (Corporate Member) and the Boards of Trustees, the President plans, leads, authorizes and directs all management and administrative functions of the Catholic Charities agencies in Western Washington which includes Catholic Community Services of Western Washington (CCS), the Archdiocesan Housing Authority (AHA) and the Catholic Charities Foundation (CCF). The President is charged with managing the agencies in accord with Catholic social and moral teaching as determined and directed by the Archbishop of Seattle. The President provides overall leadership, direction, supervision, and coordination to the Catholic Charities agencies, and serves as the public face of Catholic Charities to the Catholic community, local, regional and national funders, major donors, the general public, and government administrators and public policymakers. The President ensures an integrated, transparent and accountable system of human services, housing development and housing management agencies. This position acts as the duly authorized representative of the Corporation in all matters except those reserved exclusively for the Corporate Member, the Chair of the Boards, or the Boards of Trustees.
THE PRESIDENT SHALL:
- Be an active, engaged and practicing Catholic
- Have advanced knowledge of Catholic Social Teaching
- Direct and oversee the organization in a manner consistent with the governing documents and the Bylaws of Catholic Charities of Western Washington
- Understand the principles and practices of Catholic ecclesial life and structure
- Have obtained an advanced degree in Human Services or another related field
- Have experience in leading, managing and directing non-profit organizations with direct responsibility for managing comparable complex agencies and substantial annual budgets
- Have developed, promulgated, and implemented significant organizational policies
- Have created, lead, motivated, and managed an executive leadership team that fosters innovation with quality and excellence
- Embrace and promote social justice and respect for the sacredness of all human persons on the local, state, and national levels
- Have directed, monitored, evaluated and ensured the solid financial performance and position of a similar organization
- Have built systems of compliance with sub-systems of accountability within and across a total organization
- Have a record of leading and effecting positive change for the common good
- Embody and foster a spirit of shared mission, collegiality and shared leadership among the Agencies’ Boards of Trustees, agency leaders, staff and volunteers.
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
- Board of Trustees and the Archdiocese of Seattle
1. Presents to the Boards of Trustees, or a committee they may designate, periodic reports on the services rendered or offered by the Organization and the financial activities of the Organization, together with other special reports or information as may be required or requested by the Corporate Member or the Boards of Trustees.
2. Responsible for maintaining accountable, supportive, working relationships with the Archbishop, the Chair of the Boards, Executive Committee members, and Chancery and parish staff.
3. Meet quarterly with the Archbishop to ensure he is kept informed of key strategies, operations, and mission alignment.
- Strategic Vision
1. Leads and implements a dynamic strategic planning process for the organization to ensure that the agency remains responsive to ongoing developments within the Archdiocese, changing community and client needs, local and national social environmental realities, and the goals and objectives of agency partners including parishes, funders, governments, Managed Care Organizations and other healthcare delivery systems.
2. Works with the Chair of the Boards, the Executive Committee, and the Boards of Trustees in implementing the strategic planning process and determining the role they will play in it.
3. Leads the executive leadership and other key staff in promulgating and implementing the strategic plan and educating staff and other stakeholders re the strategic plan.
- Financial Health of the Organization
1. Responsible for approving agency budgets. Works with the agency and system directors to implement budget strategies to preserve the financial health of the Organization.
2. Supervises the business affairs of the Organization to ensure that revenues are collected and received and thereafter expended to the best possible advantage and in the best interest of the Organization.
3. Ensures physical properties and assets of the Organization are maintained in a good state of repair and operating condition.
- Fundraising
1. Working in collaboration with the Archdiocesan Fund Development Office and the Catholic Charities Foundation, the President ensures the cultivation and preservation of relationships with foundations, trusts, companies, organizations, and individuals to expand the financial resources and long-term financial security of the Agency.
- Diversity and Community Partnerships
1. Incorporates, within every aspect of the operation of the Catholic Charities agencies, an acknowledgment, understanding, integration and plan for inclusion of and collaboration with the richly diverse communities: employees, clients, residents, partners and community members who come to us for care or who join in our outreach ministries to those who are poor, vulnerable or injured.
2. Continue to support existing Communities of Concern partnerships with area leaders and policy makers to help insure the advancement of equality within the areas served by Catholic Charities.
