Essential Job Duties
- Receive emergency and non-emergency calls
- Dispatch police, fire and rescue to University locations.
- Operate and maintain Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD).
- Monitor and dispatch campus-wide fire and intrusion alarms.
- Operate Division of Criminal Information terminal.
- Issue and maintain records of departmental equipment.
- Maintain and update departmental records.
Other Responsibilities
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
Minimum Experience/Education
High School diploma and sufficient experience to demonstrate ability to work under pressure. Additional Education and Experience will be necessary for progressive steps (Journey and Advanced). Requires certification as a Division of Criminal Information computer operator or the ability to achieve certification within 45 days of employment. May require Basic Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working with a PC and be very comfortable working with a keyboard and data entry.
- Must be able to multi-task.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in answering 911 emergency and public safety calls.
- Good computer and typing skills.
- Background in public safety is helpful.
Required License or Certification
- Certification as a Division of Criminal Information computer operator or the ability to achieve certification within 120 days of employment.
- Basic Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within 6 months of employment.
- Must complete Communications Training Officer Course and obtain the certification.
Valid NC Driver's License required
