In addition to developing valuable product solutions, the group provides support to customers to achieve performance entitlement through sharing and implementation of application BKMs (Best Known Methods).Job Description/Preferred Qualifications
Responsibilities:Join a fast-paced, diverse team, crafting sophisticated metrology instruments! The hardware development team is a collaborative, multidisciplinary group passionate about crafting groundbreaking metrology products.
The Filmetrics business unit is looking for a motivated Systems Design Engineer to join our team in San Diego! This role you will support a large portfolio of products by driving the design, development and delivery of sophisticated metrology instruments while working with various team members.
- Be responsible for the technical development of sophisticated systems working with a cross-disciplinary team of engineers.
- Responsible for system integration, test and characterization. Define system and subsystem specifications.
- Perform detailed and efficient root cause analysis to problems arise during development and field-escalations.
- Drive validation and verification activities for the overall product, including system level testing.
- Work with program managers to build and handle project schedules. Interfaces closely with service, manufacturing, engineering and marketing team to define and optimize system performance and resolve performance issues.
- A Bachelor's degree (required), Master's or advanced degree (desired), in Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering (with a Mechanical Engineering focus).
- A proven understanding of Mechanical, Electrical, Optical, Optomechanical and Software systems and their interactions in the context of sophisticated industrial equipment.
- A strong background in engineering, or the physical sciences, and proven analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Proven diagnostic and trouble shooting skills in electronics, mechanics, optics, opto-mechanics, and motion control systems.
- Ability to drive problem-solving ability through design of experiments and to carry out tests to collect and analyze data.
- Expertise in Microsoft applications: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word a must.
- Able to communicate effectively with peers, interdisciplinary engineering groups, customers and suppliers. Able to give effective technical presentations up to the Product Life Cycle (PLC) level.
- Effectively connect with a broad range of people and cultures across the US, Europe and Asia.
- Demonstrated experience in statistical process control (SPC).
- Dedicated individual with keen technical ability, detailed approach, and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally a plus (~10%).
- Experience with the SolidWorks suit of CAD tools a plus.
- MS Project and Visio experience a plus.
- Python experience a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
Typically requires a Bachelors and 5 years of experience and Masters and 3 years or related experience.
