What You'll Get To Do:

The position will primarily function to plan new product development projects, leading cross functional discussions and ultimately developing the full product proposal for new developments. Also works as a liaison between factories/engineers, Mexico, China, and Japan, and sales and customer to create product strategy and to realize the specifications identified/proposed by project team.

In these projects, he or she will work with individuals from across the company to identify and define target market segments, market requirements, key business strategies and the competitive environment.

Secondary responsibility - will also collaborate regularly with Production Services, Marketing, and on occasion with technical counterparts from other organizations, including customers, consultants, etc. He or she will interact with internal customers, co workers and may participate in the resolution of external customers' issues, when required.

  • Participate in and lead project meetings to collect all the market information needed in shaping the plan, provide a view and perspective of manufacturing, and achieve the product and project specification and financial target.
  • Develop full product concept, with spec, features and benefits, pricing and projected sales volume. Prepare a good story strategy as to why we need the new product. Report to Review Boards and company leadership as required.
  • Work with factory finance team and production team to calculate the manufacturing cost of products and changes.
  • Deliver the projects objective on time. Lead the project team to ensure each member is completing his her functional assignments to move the project along throughout the entire product development process.
  • Support product testing at various 3rd party testing labs with factory engineers and take appropriate action to ensure certification.
  • Make preliminary and or final spec sheet based on the test results, summarizing technical advantage against competitors and support Engineering team to apply for certification with HVI Energy Star.
  • Review support the creation of new installation manuals with factory teams and revise them if necessary.
  • Provide internal technical support for all products and support cross reference benchmarking to help sales team whenever new products are launched.
  • Address quality issues with sales team and solve problems by finding the root cause with the help from factory. Conduct field surveys to find the cause phenomenon if required.

What You'll Bring:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical engineering or related engineering field highly preferred, but relevant product experience and technical aptitude may fulfil this requirement in some cases.
  • Minimum of 5 years of HVAC industrial or related product experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years of Product development experience required
  • Experience with basic scientific inquiry, research techniques, and basic statistical methods background preferred
  • HVAC design and or ventilation knowledge are preferred

  • A full understanding of the requirements of new product development from concept to launch, familiar with working within a formal product development process.
  • Effective project management skills i.e., project scheduling, resource allocations, risk management, etc. demonstrated ability to lead, manage, work effectively on cross functional teams.

  • Key communications contacts, internal external, and level of persuasion required
  • Proven ability to communicate with different functions of the organization, different levels of staff, colleagues overseas, and external partners
  • English and Japanese, Spanish capability is preferred

Other Requirements, e.g., working conditions, physical requirements, travel, etc.

  • Work in San Diego office.
  • Light lifting, less than 50lbs, and physical work with tools, samples, etc. maybe be needed periodically.
  • Some domestic travel may be required, 20 to 30 percent, to meetings, trade shows, product testing and customer locations.
  • Travel to Tijuana, MX factory may be required as needed.

The salary range of$105,000- 120,000 is just one component of Panasonic's total package. Actual compensation varies depending on the individual's knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives.
