Director, Development Operations
Job Description
Full job description
Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ)—a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York City—seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Director of Development Operations to join our Development team.
The Director of Institutional Giving will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
In this full-time position, reporting to the Managing Director of Development, the successful candidate will lead the Development Operations team. The role will be responsible for all CRM (currently Raiser’s Edge) functions, including vendor interface, constituent record oversight, gift processing, revenue projections and reporting, and donor analytics. The candidate will oversee scaling the operations and systems to set HCZ up for success and growth, ensuring that systems meet the needs of complex and evolving fundraising programs. This role supervises two Development Operations Associates and a Research & Development Operations Manager; provides strategic management and vision to Raiser’s Edge and associated reporting and analytics tools; oversees all donor prospect research and analytics; and leads the management of the operational functions of the fundraising teams. The Director will also help lead a potential migration of CRM to Salesforce. The candidate will be a team-oriented leader who can help establish systems, efficiencies, and best practice CRM approaches to strategic revenue growth, ensuring accurate use of the platform and timely interface with the front-line fundraising and Finance teams. The Director will also collaborate with fundraising and programmatic leads to ensure all activities with donors—including site visits, corporate engagement experiences on and off-site, and events—are on brand and managed in line with HCZ’s core values and principles. The ideal candidate for this position is a strategic thinker with knowledge of nonprofit fundraising and a strong understanding of end-user business needs. The candidate should have a passion for contributing to the mission of a pre-eminent anti-poverty organization, which is a leader in New York City and nationally in place-based solutions to promote economic, social, and racial equity.
