The Director of Development is responsible for planning, directing, and implementing a comprehensive development program, working with senior leadership to develop new sources of revenue, maintain and elevate current donors, and follow up on leads generated by Executive and Program staff. The Director of Development will have responsibility for all channels of fundraising, including annual funds, major gifts, social media fundraising, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, and events. To support these duties, the Director of Development will supervise and coordinate the work of development staff and will work in close cooperation with the Communications and Engagement staff to ensure the highest quality of media support for development activities and events.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise the work of all staff in the development function;
  • Work in close cooperation with staff in the Communications and Engagement functions to ensure coherent and integrated mutual support for development activities;
  • Manage all fundraising activities, including designing and implementing strategies for generating increased revenue for programs and capital needs;
  • Establish development goals and objectives, and determine the priority activities to be undertaken to accomplish the same;
  • Plan and execute effective development events;
  • Create and nurture long-term relationships with current and new funders;
  • Follow up on leads developed by the CEO and collaboratively develop plans for cultivation and engagement;
  • Develop and cultivate individual, corporate, and foundation partnerships;
  • Customize communications and actions for major donors;
  • Personally participate in top-level fundraising activities including identification, cultivation, and solicitation;
  • Oversee the organization’s constituency relationship management (CRM) program to steward donor relations;
  • Contribute content and ensure functionality for digital marketing efforts including website, e-newsletters, social media, and other innovative digital platforms in order to broaden the donor base and increase awareness;
  • Oversee the creation of all written fundraising materials;
  • Manage the division’s department annual operating budgets and revenue plan;
  • Maintain an environment that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse team of top-quality staff.

Relationships

This position reports directly to the Chief Advisor to the CEO, but is accountable in general to the Senior Leadership Team consisting of the Chief Executive Officer, her Chief of Staff, and the Chief Operations Officer. The Director of Development provides direct leadership and supervision for the Development staff.

Education and Experience

  • At least 5 years working in a non-profit organization at the director or executive level.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a development position.
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communication, or a relevant field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Presumed understanding of, and/or ability to learn and engage with the military, Veteran, and caregiver communities.
  • Possesses personal qualities of integrity, credibility, drive, and commitment to the organization’s mission.

Working Requirements

  • Full-time position.
  • Working hours vary but coincide with the organization’s business hours of 9 am to 5 pm.
  • Office environment with flexible remote accessibility.
  • Ability to travel.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

This position will be based out of the headquarters located at 412 Louise Ave., Charlotte, North Carolina.

This is a full-time salaried position with benefits to be negotiated based on qualifications and experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $95,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
