Job Title: Executive Director

Organization: Autism Center of Nebraska

Location: Omaha, Nebraska

Reports to: Board of Directors

Position Summary: The Executive Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational management for the Autism Center of Nebraska (ACN). This individual will work closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement organizational goals, oversee fundraising efforts, manage day-to-day operations, and ensure the organization's mission is effectively carried out. The Executive Director will also represent the organization in a professional manner with solid interpersonal skills and integrity in the community, build partnerships, and advocate for the organization's mission and values. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends and represent ACN at meetings, events, and activities as needed to advance the Mission of ACN.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning:
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement long-term strategic plans that align with the organization's mission and vision.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and development, and lead initiatives to expand the organization's impact and reach.
  • Fundraising and Financial Management:
  • Develop and execute fundraising strategies to secure financial support from donors, sponsors, and grants.
  • Oversee budget development and fiscal management, ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency.
  • Monitor financial performance and provide regular reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Program Management:
  • Provide oversight and guidance to program managers to ensure programs are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Monitor program outcomes and evaluate effectiveness, making recommendations for improvements as needed.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the organization's programs.
  • Organizational Leadership:
  • Lead and manage a team of staff and volunteers, providing mentorship, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive organizational culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • External Relations and Advocacy:
  • Oversee all legislative initiatives for the organization, with participation on relevant state and local committees.
  • Represent the organization in the community, cultivating relationships with stakeholders, partners, and supporters.
  • Advocate for the organization's mission and priorities through public speaking engagements, media relations, and policy advocacy.
  • Participate in relevant industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • An understanding of the needs of, and proven experience working with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD) and their family members/support systems.
  • Advanced degree preferred. A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, business administration, social sciences – with a focus/experience working with individuals with IDD. Years of experience in a comparable role may be considered.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience working in the field of IDD, with 3 years of administrative and supervisory experience.
  • Proven experience in nonprofit management, including fundraising, fiscal management, program development, and staff leadership.
  • Strong strategic planning and organizational development skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in the IDD/nonprofit sector.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including board members, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Passion for the organization's mission and values.
  • Ability to work well independently, but also as a team in providing support to staff.
